Fuel is a critical component in every flight. That is why all pilots must check the fuel level as a pre-flight routine using a fuel tester. You must confirm that the fuel is pure and enough for the flight, with enough reserve available.
Several types of fuel testers exist.
Sporty’s fuel tester
The tester has a screwdriver on one end and an elongated design that make it easier to use. It also has a removable center rod compatible with both drain valve types.
The sampler cup is the most affordable option with a smaller design that makes it easier to stow. The cup has a rod in the center, but it is only suitable for aircraft with single sumps.
Multi-sump testers
The fuel testers are suitable for larger reservoirs and several sumps.
GATs jar
GATs jar is suitable for bigger aircraft. The design consists of a reversible fuel drain - it can work with both valve types. It also has a screen that comes in handy if you want to strain debris.
Flying at night is mandatory for students and seasoned pilots alike, making flashlights fundamental. Several brands are available, but the best ones should have red and white lights for night vision. You can choose rechargeable flashlights or those with headlamps for the best focus.
